School of Music students receive standing ovation at USS Omaha celebration

The UNO School of Music collaborated with the Central High School A Cappella Choir to celebrate the commissioning of the USS Omaha at the Century Link Ballroom on Monday, February 12, 2018.

The performance included music by the UNO Jazz Ensemble, UNO Drumline Ensemble “The Herd” and UNO’s voice faculty, Professor Kyle Stegall. The UNO Concert Choir (Dr. Derrick Fox, conductor and Ms. Stacie Haneline, collaborative pianist), Central High IMG_8615.JPGSchool A Cappella Choir (Ms. Lyn Bouma, conductor), and the UNO Symphonic Wind Ensemble (Dr. Karen Fannin, conductor) performed a short concert to close the evening with a thunderous standing ovation by the audience members.

Additionally, UNO’s Professor of Flute, Dr. Christie Beard, had a virtuoso piccolo solo which was also received with vigorous enthusiasm during The Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa.
