Heartland Community Flute Choir performs at the 45th National Flute Association Convention

UNO’s Heartland Community Flute Choir (HCFC) was joined by members of Coro di Flauti (Lincoln, NE) to perform at the 45th National Flute Association Convention (NFA) held in Minneapolis, MN from August 10-13, 2017. Now celebrating their 15th season, the HCFC is comprised of UNO students, high school students, and adult amateur and semi-professional flutists from NE and western IA, led by UNO’s professor of flute, Dr. Christine Beard. After winning a national audition-based selection process, this was the 3rd NFA convention to which the HCFC has been invited to perform, the previous two being in Chicago (2012) and Kansas City (2009). Their program showcased works composed by Omaha-based composer, James-Michael Sellers and included “Equinox,” a 15-minute concerto for alto flute and flute choir written for the HCFC featuring guest soloist Carla Rees, a world renowned low flutes specialist from the UK.
