UNO Professor of Flute, Dr. Christine Beard served as a guest artist for the XXVII Festival de Flautistas en el Centro del Mundo (Flute Festival in the Center of the World) held in Quito, Ecuador from June 3-10, 2017. She joined an impressive roster of 15 international flutists representing numerous countries including Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Switzerland, Norway, Belgium, France, Canada and the United States. During the festival, Beard taught two flute /piccolo masterclasses as well as individual flute lessons to students participating in the festival; she performed a solo recital that included a newly-commissioned piece for piccolo and piano written for Beard by Nebraska composer Daniel Baldwin; and she performed with the Coro de Flautas on the festival’s closing concert. A video of Beard performing Daniel Baldwin’s “Haven” at the festival can be viewed at https://youtu.be/WY9Sh5NSD8c
