Two of UNO’s flute students participated in flute festivals in the USA and abroad this summer. Carlyn Hendler, a senior flute performance major from Austin, TX was accepted to study at the 2016 Aria International Summer Academy held on the campus of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA. During the 2-week festival, Carlyn worked with flutist Alexa Still (Oberlin), John Thorne (Northwestern Univ) and Donna Shin (Univ of Washington) in daily masterclasses, workshops and private lessons.
Freshman flute performance major Jordan McDugle of Houston, TX spent over a month in Europe participating in 2 summer festivals: the first, was the Zodiac Music Academy & Festival led by Kliment Krylovskiy and the Zodiac Trio, held in the Alps near Nice, France. During Zodiac, Jordan received chamber music coaching sessions with flutist Sergio Pallottell
i (Italy/USA), cellist Ariel Barnes (Canada) and violinist Vanessa Mollard (France), and was honored
with the festival’s “Chamber Music Award” for his group’s outstading performance of Mozart’s Quartet in D Major. Following the Zodiac Festival, Jordan then traveled to the Tuscan hills of Italy (near Florence) to attend at the Flauti al Castello festival where he studied with Italian flutist Sergio Pallottelli and American flute legend, Leone Buyse.
