Two UNO Woodwind Students Win 2022 NWS Memorial Scholarship Competition

Two UNO woodwind students have been named winners in the 2022 Nebraska Wind Symphony’s Memorial Scholarship Competition. Established in 2007 to honor former NWS players, the scholarship is meant to encourage continued performance in a university instrumental ensemble by providing financial assistance to college students who play wind or percussion instruments, have prior experience in a band program, and plan to continue their involvement in an instrumental ensemble during and after college.

Seh Na Mellick, a junior Molecular and Biomedical Biology major at UNO, is an oboe student of Professor Darci Gamerl. A native of Omaha and home-schooled in high school, Seh Na and has participated in several ensembles at UNO including the Heartland Philharmonic Orchestra, University Band, and Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Having auditioned by performing Antonino Pasculli’s “Concerto sopra motivi dell’opera ‘La favorita’ di Donizetti”, Miss Mellick will receive a $500 scholarship award.

Paige Michaud is a junior flute performance major at UNO studying with Dr. Christine Beard. A graduate of Papillion-La Vista High School, Paige won the 2022 Lincoln Symphony Concerto Competition in March, and performs at UNO as a member of the Heartland Philharmonic Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Heartland Flute Choir. Miss Michaud will receive a $1,000 scholarship award, and she will perform the Concerto for Flute in D Major, Op. 283 by Carl Reinecke with the Nebraska Wind Symphony during the 2022-23 season.
