Stephan Gomez, Conductor and BA Music Entrepreneurial Studies major, receives a $2,000 grant from the Laura Bruton Scholarship fund through the Conducting Institute in Fort Worth, TX. The fund is in memory of Laura Bruton, who served as principal violist of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra since 1988. Ms. Bruton passed away in 2019 after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Her great friend and principal second violin of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Adrian DeCosta, founded the fund to honor Laura’s memory. The scholarship supports musicians who seek training and education. Stephan will use the funds to support his Capstone project which will culminate in a performance of Stravinsky’s Soldier’s Tale. Stephan will conduct UNO students and faculty in the performance on 4/26 at 12pm in the Strauss Recital Hall. Stephan is a student of Miguel Harth-Bedoya and looks forward to pursing a Masters in Orchestral Conducting at Baylor University in Waco, TX, in fall 2022.
