UNO Flute Students Shone During Summer

BM flute performance major Paige Michaud was accepted to study at the week-long Flauti al Castello – held in person in a medieval castle in Sorci, Italy – with renowned flutists Sergio Pallottelli (Longy School of Music) and Matthieu Gauci-Ancelin (Berlin Philharmonic). BM flute performance major Catherine Boese performed alongside her teacher, Dr. Christine Beard, as a soloist with the Nebraska Wind Symphony for the band’s 4th of July concert at Omaha’s Capitol District. Both piccolo specialists, the duo performed a charming Victorian-era character piece entitled, “Fluttering Birds” for two piccolos and band by Jean Genin, led by NWS conductor (and UNO Assistant Director of Bands), Dr. Josh Kearney.

BA flute/music studies major Erica Wilkins was selected by national audition to the 2021 National Flute Association’s Collegiate Flute Choir, which had a virtual performance in August 2021. Due to COVID and the 2021 NFA convention being held virtually, Erica will also participate in the NFA Collegiate Flute Choir when it is held in person in Chicago in August 2022. www.nfaonline.org
