Flutist Erica Wilkins has been selected as the winner of the Nebraska Wind Symphony’s 2021 Concerto Competition. A sophomore at UNO, Erica is a flute student of Dr. Christine Beard pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Studies. She won the competition with her performance the “Concertino, Op. 107” by Cecile Chaminade.
Established in 1977, the Nebraska Wind Symphony is Omaha’s oldest community band and is currently under the direction of Dr. Joshua Kearney. Miss Wilkins’ performance with the NWS will be tabled for a future date due to current COVID restrictions. However, having also won UNO’s 2020-21 Concerto-Aria competition, Erica can be heard with the Heartland Philharmonic Orchestra in a performance of Fantaisie Brillante sur ‘Carmen’ for flute and orchestra by François Borne on Thursday, April 27, 2021.
