UNO music faculty members Christine Beard & Stacie Haneline perform at the Flute New Music Consortium New Music Festival

UNO music faculty members Christine Beard (Professor of Flute) & Stacie Haneline (Lecturer of Piano) were invited to perform at the Flute New Music Consortium New Music Festival held at the State University of New York-Stony Brook campus from January 17-19, 2020. The FNMC’s mission is to promote new music for the flute by commissioning works, organizing simultaneous premieres, and encouraging repeat performances; the FNMC festival features music by living composers or works composed after 1970. http://www.flutenewmusicconsortium.com

An internationally recognized piccolo specialist, Beard selected two pieces to showcase at the festival: the world premiere of Sonata No. 5 (2020) for piccolo & piano by British composer Matthew Smith; and “Nocturne” (2008) for piccolo & piano by American composer Martin Rokeach, the latter of whom traveled to NY from CA to meet and give feedback to both performers during a rehearsal of his piece prior to their live performance. Visit Beard’s website at http://www.christiebeard.com for upcoming performance dates and audio/video clips.
