UNO Choral Area Hosts International Gospel Conductor/Teacher Dr. Raymond Wise on campus

Dr. Raymond Wise, Professor of Practice – African American and African Diaspora Studies at Indiana University, provided a gospel music workshop for the UNO Concert Choir. He also worked with choirs from Creighton Prep High School and Westside High School. While on campus, he also participated in a Q & A sessions with students from UNO ACDA and Westside High School.

Dr. Wise’s time at UNO culminated in a Gospel Festival Concert that featured the UNO Concert Choir, Creighton Prep Choir, Bellevue East High School Choir as well as members from the Presbyterian Church of the Cross and community members from the greater Omaha area. The Mass Choir of 150 singers performed six selections and Dr. Wise masterfully weaved in the history of black gospel music between each piece.

This concert, held at Countryside Community Church, was well received as the 450 audience members who were quickly invited into the performance through participatory songs led by Dr. Wise, the Mass Choir and soloist Prof. Tiffany Williams from Jackson State University.

This collaborative concert was the product of the UNO Choral Area and Vesper Concert Series.
