Dr. Joshua Kearney has been appointed Visiting Music Director of the Nebraska Wind Symphony for their 43rd concert season beginning in August 2019. The Nebraska Wind Symphony (NWS) is an adult community band of over 75 adults from a wide variety of vocational backgrounds. The mission of the NWS is to provide amateur adult musicians the opportunity to perform music for wind band in a nurturing environment and share our music joyfully with the community.
Since its inception in 1977, over 650 musicians have participated in more than 165 concerts. The organization has commissioned five new works for band and performed alongside of some of the country’s most renowned composers, conductors, and performers including Claude T. Smith, Alfred Reed, Timothy Mahr, and Marian McPartland among others. The ensemble has hosted the national convention of the Association of Concert Bands and performed at the national conference in 2005.
In 2019-2020, the NWS will give four concerts plus other performances in a variety of venues, including two free summer outdoor events. Dr. Kearney will be relieving current Music Director Larry MacTaggart during Mr. MacTaggart’s sabbatical.
