Beard/Haneline “Inspire” at the 2019 MidAltalntic Flute Convention

UNO’s Professor of Flute, Christine Beard and Instructor of Piano, Stacie Haneline joined forces to perform a recital at the 2019 MidAtlantic Flute Convention, held February 16-17 in in Reston, VA, sponsored by the Flute Society of Washington (FSW). Described by convention attendees as “brilliant,” “inspiring,” and “a highlight of the convention,” their program – entitled Something for Everyone: 21st Century Music for Piccolo – featured music for piccolo written by composers from around the world, including Derek Charke (Canada), Exequiel Mantega (Argentina), Herman Beeftink (Netherlands-USA), Dana Wilson (USA), Nebraska-based composer Daniel Baldwin, and Matt Smith (UK).

The convention’s program chair, Troy Paloantonio (U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corp/Catholic University) also joined them in a performance of “Tango” for two piccolos and piano by Vinicio Meza (Costa Rica). In addition to performing, Beard served as a final round judge the FSW Collegiate Soloist Competition held on the first day of the convention, for which three pre-selected finalists performed unaccompanied works for flute by J.S. Bach and Katherine Hoover. For more information about the MidAtlantic Flute Convention, visit https://fsw.wildapricot.org/mid_atlantic_flute_convention.
