The AKME Duo, consisting of Dr. Kelly Austermann and Dr. Emily McIvor, was invited to perform a series of clarinet duo recitals in the St. Louis area this September. They performed at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, East Central College, Webster University, and the University of Missouri, providing students with an opportunity to experience high quality literature featuring two clarinets or clarinet/bass clarinet. The duo also discussed strategies for performing chamber music after graduation, recruiting private students, and building freelance careers. Dr. Austermann is principal clarinetist with the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra and teaches clarinet and saxophone at East Central College, St. Louis Community College, several St. Louis area middle and high schools, and maintains a private studio. Dr. McIvor is the Instructor of Clarinet at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Creighton University, freelances as a clarinetist, bass clarinetist, and collaborative pianist in the Omaha area, and maintains a thriving private studio.
