The UNO School of Music hosted a performance by the New Alaska Trio: James Johnson, piano, Kathleen Butler Hopkins, violin, and Patrick Hopkins, cello . The program included Bach’s concerto for two violins (with UNO faculty member, Mary Perkinson, violin II), Bach’s cello suite No. 3, and Beethoven’s Trio Op. 70 No. 1, “Ghost”.
The New Alaska Trio is so named because two of its members were formerly members of the University of Alaska music faculty, and as such, were members of the Alaska Trio. The Alaska Trio was featured in Musical America and Chamber Music America. The group toured extensively over the Pacific Northwest, and in the contiguous states. Patrick Hopkins, who replaces original cellist Bruno DiCecco, is the son of violinist Kathleen Butler Hopkins.
The trio will also perform on Sunday, March 20 at 4 p.m. at the historic St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (22 Dillman Drive) in Council Bluffs.
