Indonesian guest artists visit UNO

ShelbyIndonesiaJohannes Nugroho and Antonius Priyanto, faculty members at University Pelita Harapan in Indonesia, visited the UNO School of Music for one week in November. The pinnacle of the week was a concert featuring world premieres by Dr. Nugroho and Mr. Priyanto. UNO Faculty Mary Perkinson and Shelby VanNordstrand were featured in the premieres, along with students Carlyn Hendler and Erika Nightingale. The concert also featured student ensembles Ensemble 768 (Dr. Christie Beard, director) and UNO Chamber Choir, directed by Prof. Shannon Gravelle.

In addition to the concert, Nugroho, Priyanto, Perkinson, and VanNordstrand were busy with musical events around the metro and state. They performed at Bergan Mercy Hospital as part of Sound Health series that brings performances to local hospitals. They gave outreach sessions at Westside High School and Central High School. They presented at the Nebraska Music Educators Association Conference in Lincoln, NE.

This collaboration was made possible through a grant from UNO Office of Research and Creative Activity. The second and final phase of the grant will take place in May 2016 when Dr. Perkinson and Prof VanNordstrand travel to University Pelita Harapan in Indonesia.
