Dr. Christine Beard featured a guest artist in Brazil

UFRGS recital colleaguesIn September 2015, UNO’s Professor of Flute, Dr. Christine Beard spent 10 days in Brazil as a guest artist at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in Porto Alegre. The residency was part of an exchange between Beard and UFRGS guitar professor, Dr. Daniel Wolff, who was in residency at UNO in April 2015.

Beard’s activities at UFRGS included teaching flute masterclasses, presenting a lecture on “self marketing strategies for the 21st century musician,” coaching a chamber music class, and serving on the jury panel for masters student flute recitals. Beard performed a recital at UFRGS midweek, which featured several collaborations with local musicians (including Wolff). Christie and Daniel also booked session time at Estudio Soma where the duo recorded “Lamento” for piccolo and guitar by the American composer Christopher Caliendo, to be included on Beard’s forthcoming solo CD.

Beard then traveled to Pelotas, Brazil where she taught flute students in a masterclass at the Universidade Federal de Pelotas (UFPel) and performed a recital at the Catedral Anglicana do Redentor. Her program included several selections for flute and guitar with Wolff, as well as two flute duos with UFPel Professor of Flute, Raul Acosta d’Avila. http://www.christiebeard.com
