In July of 2015, two UNO School of Music students were selected for the Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma National Intercollegiate Band held at the Lexington Opera House in Lexington, Kentucky. To be selected, students were required to submit a recorded audition. Trumpeter Zach Beran, a junior Music Performance and Psychology Major from Omaha, and percussionist Dave Tyler, a Masters student in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice from San Marino, California, joined students from around the United States for several days of rehearsals. The 2015 conductor of the National Intercollegiate Band was Professor Joseph Hermann, Director of Bands at Tennessee Tech University. In existence since 1947, the National Intercollegiate Band is one component of the Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma national convention held every other year.
