This summer, Dr. Karen Fannin, Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands at UNO, presented at two international music conferences. In June, Dr. Fannin traveled to the International College Music Society Conference in Stockholm, Sweden where she presented a session entitled “Making a Connection: Applying Interdisciplinary Scholarship to Form Meaningful Musical Connections with Our Ensembles and Audiences” at Stockholms Musikpedagogiska Institut. Dr. Fannin presented the same session in July at the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) Conference at San Jose State University in San Jose, California. At that conference, Fannin joined presenters from throughout North America, South America, and Europe. Passionate about making interdisciplinary connections that impact a conductor’s work with an ensemble, Dr. Fannin is scheduled to present this session at the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) regional conference ! at Iowa S tate University in Ames, Iowa in February 2016.
This fall, Dr. Fannin begins a two-year appointment on the CBDNA Diversity Committee. This national committee, comprised of ten conductors from around the United States, is charged with increasing membership and participation in CBDNA among women and minorities.
