Dr. Jackson Roberson (BM-Guitar Performance 2017), completed his MM in Guitar Performance at the University of Memphis in 2019, where he received a Graduate Assistantship and worked with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.
He went on to complete his DMA in Guitar Performance at the University of South Carolina in 2023 where he was awarded a Graduate Assistantship. In his dissertation, Appalachian Dreams: Traditional Folk Songs in Concert Literature for Classical Guitar, he discusses the source material and arrangement techniques used by John Duarte in his suite Appalachian Dreams.

In the 23-24 academic year, he served as Adjunct Professor at both Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC and Midlands Technical College in Columbia, SC in addition to overseeing a large private studio in Columbia. Most recently, Dr. Roberson was hired as the second ever full-time Professor of Music at Midlands Technical College in the Fall of 2024, where he continues to develop and expand the Music Department with the goal of developing an associate’s degree path in music! He teaches Music Appreciation, Introduction to Guitar, a group guitar class that he developed and initiated at the college. Additionally, thanks to Dr. Roberson, the college will soon offer for-credit applied guitar lessons for the first time at Midlands Tech.
He is excited to help establish a degree program in music from scratch. Dr. Roberson is grateful to his mentor and teacher Hadley Heavin at UNO for his mentorship and guidance during his time at UNO. Proud to call you an alum Dr. Roberson!
