Yimeng Xu wins the Puerto Rico International Collaborative Piano Competition

Yimeng Xu won the 2021 Puerto Rico International Collaborative Piano

Collegiate Competition. The competition was open to collaborative pianists

participating in the week long Puerto Rico Collaborative Piano Institute.

Competitors had a pre-screening round with submitted recordings of each

competitors collaborative work. All competitors were assigned repertoire

focusing on the mission of the Institute celebrating diverse repertoire focusing

on compositions by Latin American composers, composers of color, women and

the LGBTQ+ communities. Yimeng Xu performed with her flute partner, Paige

Michaud. Yimeng studies collaborative piano with Professor Haneline and Paige

Michaud is a student of Dr. Christie Beard.

The aim of the Puerto Rico Collaborative Piano Institute is to provide a high

quality, affordable, bi-lingual, international summer music festival for pianists

desiring to enhance their collaborative skills. In addition to our student track, we

offer amateur and professional tracks. The PRCPI is housed under the umbrella

of the Diaz del Moral Foundation and partners with its sister organizations the

Puerto Rico Summer Music Festival and the Puerto Rico Flute Symposium.

Together, these three organizations seek to advance under-represented musical

voices through our leadership, repertoire selections, workshop topics, and

location. In addition, the three organizations provide all concerts free of charge

to the local community in Puerto Rico.
