The Nebraska Chapter of the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) has awarded UNO School of Music alumna Debbie Martinez as its 2020 Outstanding Teacher of the Year. Debbie’s commitment, dedication, and tireless contributions to string education in Nebraska serve as amodel for every string teacher in the state and beyond.

Her creativity, flexibility, and commitment to her students at Millard North High School are inspirational and have shone even brighter during the pandemic. Debbie’s love of music can be seen in her students’ passion for playing as she inspires them to make beautiful music in a safe, supportive environment that promotes community, connection, friendship, and support.
