Five students completed the 16 week mentoring program between UNO and music school, Crash Bang Boom. Yimeng Xu and Marissa Mathia were in their second year of participation while Hannah Fisher, Chris Mitchell and Aida Soria participated in their first year. Led by Stacie Haneline, Dr. Shelly Cooper and Ashley Eisenmann the students studied pedagogy, curriclum, methodology and technology for piano students. The student teachers learned a new platform for teaching piano virtually, Piano Marvel, which allows students to engage with midi keyboards or acoustic instruments. Students will begin teaching private lessons this fall utilizing Piano Marvel for students at Crash Bang Boom.
Upon completion of the coursework, students will begin teaching at Crash Bang Boom in the fall under the supervision Stacie and Ashley Eisenmann, owner and lead teacher of Crash Bang Boom. Crash Bang Boom is committed to the musical development and education of all children interested in learning to play the piano throughout the Omaha community. UNO School of Music Keyboard Area is committed to fostering a well rounded education for piano students with opportunities to engage with the community. Students admitted into the mentorship program will work closely with music educators from UNO and area teachers for guidance and support.
