On 12/4/19, Dr. Matthew Brooks and UNO alumna and Millard North High School Director of Orchestras, Debbie Martinez, brought beautiful music to the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.
The mission of Sound Health is to enrich the healthcare environment for patients, families, health care providers and staff through live music while providing music students with an opportunity for service learning and professional performing experience. The goals of Sound Health are to contribute to a healing environment; to give music students service learning opportunities; and to break down the “fourth wall” barriers, connecting musicians to their audiences and vice versa.
This is the second consecutive year that Debbie Martinez, Dr. Matthew Brooks, and Dr. Perkinson, Assistant Professor of Violin and String Education, partnered with UNO’s Service Learning Academy and UNMC & Nebraska Medicines Healing Arts program Executive Director, Amy Jenson and Curator, Colleen Heavican on this project. The Healing Arts Program is led by Executive Director, Amy Jenson & Curator, Colleen Heavican Cass. In addition to the UNO School of Music fall residency at MNHS, UNO students and MNHS are excited to celebrate their collaboration during their performance at The Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.
