Recent Alums Attend Conducting Symposia

This summer, four recent UNO School of Music graduates attended conducting symposia to pursue intensive study in conducting and rehearsal techniques.  Lauren Milbourn (May 2018 graduate, Assistant Director of Bands at Millard South High School) and Brian Nelsen (May 2018 graduate and Assistant Director of Bands at Elkhorn High School) attended the University of Colorado Wind Conducting Workshop where they worked with H. Robert Reynolds (Principal Conductor of the Wind Ensemble at the Thornton School of Music at the University of South California), and Dr. Don McKinney and Dr. Matthew Dockendorf from the University of Colorado.  Beth Myers, a May 2018 graduate and Assistant Director of Bands at Omaha Central High School, conducted at the Los Angeles Conducting Institute at Caltech where she worked with H. Robert Reynolds and Glenn Price, Director of Performing and Visual Arts, California Institute of Technology.  December 2018 graduate Alex Lunardi (Assistant Director of Bands at Benson High School and instructor at several OPS elementary schools) attended the conducting workshop at Lipscomb University where he worked with Dr. Ben Blasko, Director of Instrumental Studies at Lipscomb University and Professor Anthony Maiello, University Professor of Instrumental Conducting at George Mason University.   All four studied conducting with Dr. Karen Fannin, UNO Director of Bands and Assistant Director of the School of Music.
