Yimeng Xu, piano student of Dr. Washington Garcia, has been chosen to receive the Nebraska Music Teachers Association Thomas Ediger Collegiate Scholarship in recognition of her outstanding performance, essay, musical activities and achievements, and contributions to the UNO School of Music and community.

Yimeng began her piano studies at the age of five in her native country of China. At the age of ten she began formal instruction with Fang Zhang at the Shenyang Conservatory of Music. Yimeng has received several recognitions including the runner-up prize at the 2019 UNO Concerto Competition. She is currently finishing her second semester as a freshman piano major.
