Tianyu Luo, sophomore piano major in the studio of Dr. Washington Garcia, has been selected to perform in a master class with renowned concert pianist Jonathan Biss . The performance will be held on October 26 at Sioux City, Iowa. Tianyu is one of three pianists in the region selected through a rigorous competitive process.
Tianyu Liu was born in China, where she started her piano studies in the Art Middle School attached to the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, in Chengdu. She started playing the piano at the age of 5 under the instruction of Li Jingqing. In 2008, Tianyu enrolled in the studio of Wang Mai, Associated Professor of Piano Department at Sichuan Conservatory of Music, where she graduated with honors.
In 2011, Tianyu was awarded first prize in the Sino-Singapore International Music Competition (Chengdu) in the Fourth Group of Open Works and in 2016 she received the First Prize in the Professional Group C (Piano Sonata) at the Sino-Korea International Youth Music Competition.
Tianyu has participated in the Texas State International Piano Festival, where she was awarded third place in the festival’s competition.
