Dr. Karen Fannin travels to Alaska

Dr. Karen Fannin, UNO School of Music’s Director of Bands, served on the faculty of the Sitka Fine Arts Camp in Sitka, Alaska earlier this summer. While in residence, Fannin conducted the concert band, and taught conducting and music theory. Since 1973, the Summer 16Sitka Fine Arts Camp has provided Alaskan youth with the opportunity to develop artistic interests and skills in an intensive artistic experience. Approximately 800 students attend this camp, coming from 45 Alaskan communities, 20 states, and three countries. While in residency in Sitka, Fannin also served as a mentor teacher in the Sitka Fine Arts Camp Teacher Institute, a continuing education graduate course held concurrently with the high school camp.
