Summer 2015 was an exciting time for UNO Percussion. We were fortunate enough to participate in various events around the community including work for Under The Radar Music Festival and The Omaha Community Playhouse 90th Anniversary Celebration. At the OCP UNO’s Percussion Touring group Xyloteque performed a set of various works showcasing ensemble and individual talent. It was a great opportunity for our students to help meet the University’s goals of community engagement with an audience that we would not usually be at our traditional concerts.
The new music festival Under the Radar entered its second year and UNO Percussion was proud to be a prominent part of the events. We were represented almost every day of the festival with our percussion Faculty playing on four different concerts and our students playing on five events. One of the highlights of the entire festival was a performance of Mauricio Kage’s Dressur that featured percussionist Jared Brown, Philip Kolbo, and Ramond Kyaw. The piece is theatrical in nature and required building and procuring over 50 different percussion instruments.
We are excited for the Fall semester to start. Our studio of 17 students will perform at many different venues in Omaha from including jazz, symphonic, pop, and sacred settings. We hope that you will have a chance to see us soon!
