UNO Flute Studio’s Argentina “Road Trip Recap” 2025

Four current members and one alumnus of the UNO Flute Studio traveled to Mendoza, Argentina, to perform at the 2025 World Flutes Festival. Under the direction of Dr. Christine Beard and joined by Omaha-based flutist Madison Booth, the ensemble was featured on the WFF’s Friday night showcase concert at the Teatro Independencia, performing “Nuraghi Warriors Dance” by Anže Rozman. The group concluded the festival with a full concert featuring works by Linthicum-Blackhorse, Sarah Bassingthwaighte, Patrice Bocquillon, and Rozman. In addition, Noah Edwards, a senior flute performance major at UNO, was tapped for a solo appearance, performing “50 Fish” for flute and electronics by Egbert Jan Louwerse.

Beyond the festival, the group immersed themselves in the rich cultural offerings of the festival, enjoying lectures and performances by flutists from across South America and Europe playing on both Western and non-Western flutes. They also spent time exploring Buenos Aires—visiting the vibrant La Boca, Centro, and Recoleta districts—and took a guided tour of the city’s world-renowned Teatro Colón, its principal opera and orchestral venue.

Three of the pieces performed in Argentina (Blackhorse, Bassingwaithe, and Rozman) will be featured on the Heartland Flute Choir’s fall concert on October 28th.
