Nearly 3,000 flutists from around the globe gathered in Atlanta, GA for the 53rd National Flute Association Convention held August 6-10, 2025. UNO participants included sophomore UNO flute major Grace Dixon, a first-time attendee who performed as a member of the Nebraska Flute Ensemble and was also selected to perform as one of the 2 piccolo players in the convention’s closing flute choir. UNO Flute Studio alumni Kitty Boese (BM ’23) represented Pettry Piccolos in the exhibit hall and performed in the Nebraska Flute Ensemble, as did Heidi Korsmo, a community member in UNO’s Heartland Flute Choir. Leanna Keith (BM ’14) performed on a recital paying tribute to Seattle Symphony piccolo player Zart Dombourian-Eby and on a concert with the International SuperFlutes Collective, as well as beginning her new position as Chair of the NFA New Music Advisory Committee.

UNO’s Director of Bands, Dr. Joshua Kearney was also included on the program with his hot-off-the-press arrangement of “Variations on America” by Charles Ives performed by the International SuperFlutes Collective. For more info about the NFA, visit nfaonline.org.
