Faculty invited to perform at the National Opera Association Conference

Professors Justin Payne and Stacie Haneline performed at the National Opera Association and National Association of Teachers of Singing Conference in Savannah, Georgia in January. Justin Payne and Stacie Haneline performed two newly discovered unpublished arias in a recital of selected featuring other unpublished arias and works from Robert Owen’s Archives.

This presentation introduced newly discovered stage works found in the Robert Owens Archive at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, including two unfinished Singspiels, an Opernparadie, and an unclassified stage work in manuscript form. One of the most prolific African American composers of art song, Owens’ contribution to the operatic genre is not yet fully explored. The  The foremost expert on Robert Owens, Dr. Jamier Remier, contextualized these works in
Owen’s life, as well as discussed, the forthcoming publication of unpublished art songs and arias. The performance also featured Paul Houghtaling, bass-baritone; Jennifer D’Agostino, mezzo soprano, Cydney Marie Washington, soprano with Stacie Haneline, pianist.
