UNO School of Music students performed at the National Opera Association Convention Conference in Tempe, Arizona in January 2024. They were finalists in the national Robert Hansen Collegiate Opera Scenes Competition in the musical theatre division. UNO featured singing actors included Yasmine Elrefaie, Anna Freivogel, Isa Gott, Samantha Howdle, Emery Leitch, and Christian Shields. These students also attended additional conference sessions, masterclasses, performances, and panel discussions.

Yasmine Elrefaie said of her experience: “Not only was I able to connect with fellow musicians, but I also had the privilege to be in the same room as famous composers, librettists, professors, and industry professionals. I loved being able to meet other performance majors from across the nation and to be able to mix with professionals who have incredible experience and advice to share. To be able to experience being surrounded by a diverse group of people from around the nation is not only educational but truly meaningful in each of our lived experiences as musicians.”
