Flutist Sofia Cormack selected for Spring semester internship with IAWM

Flutist Sofia Cormack has been selected for an internship with the International Alliance for Women in Music (IAWM) during the spring 2024 semester. The remote paid position will include mentorship from IAWM Board members while gaining valuable experience in the various aspects of non-profit management, development, marketing, and advocacy.

The IAWM was formed in 1995 through the merger of three organizations that arose during the women’s rights movements of the 1970s to combat inequitable treatment of women-in-music: the International League of Women Composers founded in 1975 to create and expand opportunities for women composers of music; the International Congress on Women in Music founded in 1979 to form an organizational basis for women in music conferences and meetings; and American Women Composers, Inc., founded in 1976 to promote music by American women composers. A native of Omaha, Sofia earned her Bachelor of Music degree in flute performance from UNO in 2021. She is currently a second year graduate student at UNO studying with Dr. Christine Beard and will complete her Master of Music degree in flute performance in May 2024.
