The 51st convention of the National Flute Association took place in Phoenix, AZ from August 3-6, 2023 and featured several UNO Flute Studio alumni on the program:
Leanna Keith (B.M. 2014) – a member of the NFA’s New Music Advisory Committee – performed a full solo recital of her own original compositions for flute + looper; performed on the “Intro to Graphic Scores” concert and the “Sounds of Seattle” concert, both of which included her original works; and also performed with the International SuperFlutes Collective on the Friday pre-gala concert. Hannah Haefele (M.M. 2020) gave an informative lightening talk on integrating pop music into flute pedagogy and was also in the spotlight for a “meet and greet” at the Flute 360o booth as one of the popular pod cast’s former guests. A professional blogger, Hannah will start a new position as a flute music sales specialist for Carolyn Nussbaum in TX this fall. www.youtube.com/@hannahhaefele
Paúl Loja Prado (M.M. 2021) performed as part of Texas Tech University flute studio’s concert (at which where he is currently pursuing a DMA).
Adam Wisniewski (B.M. Ed. 2012), a music teacher in OPS, and Carlyn Hendler (B.M. 2015), a flute repair technician in TX, also attended the NFA Convention for professional development/networking.
